Lamorna View
Property Photography
The Background
Sometimes in photography there are particularly poignant moments that really demonstrate how far your work has come. Not long ago, I was able to take part in a very special shoot that took me right back to the beginning of my photography career.
Taking place in Cornwall’s deep west, the shoot involved photographing a gorgeous cottage, Lamorna View, which I had already photographed back in 2013 when I was first starting out in photography.
The property owners had kindly invited me back to refresh the photos, and I was really excited to head back after all those years to revisit the cottage - as well as to take the opportunity to see how far my skills had developed.
The Brief
Aimed at solo breaks and romantic escapes, Lamorna View is a real haven. Set above the stunning Lamorna Cove, this one-bedroom idyll enjoys sweeping vistas overlooking the surrounding countryside and sparkling sea and is just perfect for relaxed escapes.
Especially sought-after for romantic getaways, its ornate king-sized bed, two-person slipper bathtub, outdoor hot tub, and beautiful vintage features are particular highlights, so it was these that I really tried to emphasise during the shoot.
With all my equipment gathered, I ventured over to take a collection of both daytime and evening photos to curate a comprehensive illustration of the cottage, showcasing its beauty from sun-kissed to dusky hours.
Working with the Silver Origins team, we set upon filming one longer showreel and a shorter series of clips. For the showreel, we used a poem called The Cornish Shore by Clive Blake. It is a beautiful poem that captures the heart of Cornish living and life by the sea.
We formed a narrative of the model experiencing the beauty of the Cornish shoreline, creating memories and losing herself in the relaxing, peaceful environment. We were able to show the crystal-clear waters gently spilling over the walkway to St Michael’s Mount and even filmed clips in the water with the model reaching for seashells and emerging with a silver shell necklace. In every piece we shot, the jewellery was the star. Careful curations of rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and anklets were in constant use so that we could give viewers ample opportunity to spot favourite items and see the comfort and ease in which they are worn.
I used a gimble and drone to capture steady movement and in post-production edited the speed and cuts from the various takes to create a slow, calming atmosphere to the piece. We recorded the poem and used it set against the sounds of the sea lapping against the shore and a gentle relaxing music soundtrack.
The final showreel is a three minute film that captures Silver Origins beautiful jewellery collection in a nostalgic ode to Cornwall.
Professional Social Media Clips
Following the creation of the showreel, I joined the Sea Gems and Silver Origins teams on a number of photoshoots for their jewellery collections to maximise the marketing material that they could gain from them.
While the photographer directed the models for still website imagery, I filmed over their shoulder, capturing experimental angles and impromptu movements of the models that I could edit into a series of clips they could use for social media reels.
Working together like this was the most effective use of everyone's time and resources, and we did this on multiple shoots around some quintessential Cornish destinations. New and popular collections of Silver Origins jewellery were used, and ultimately we doubled the amount of content available for the client. It was great to be involved in such a dynamic and creative marketing campaign that celebrates Cornish craftsmanship and fuels the local economy.
